Texas Rangers vs New York Yankees Post Game Recap
Final Score: Rangers 1 Yankees 2
The New York Yankees after a long game on Tuesday night, only played five innings due to some serious rain in the Bronx on Wednesday. Unlike in Baltimore when they were trailing when the game was called after five innings, this time the Yankees were ahead and got the win. The victory is another important one for the Yankees, who are now (52-48), which puts them right in the hunt in the AL East.
David Phelps pitched a fine game in five innings, and earned his fifth win of the season against a tough opponent in Yu Darvish. Phelps went five innings allowing just one run on five hits with three strikeouts. The only Rangers run against Phelps came in the third inning, as he was able to get Rougned Odor to ground into a double-play that scored Leonys Martin.
After the Rangers took the lead in the top half of the third inning, the Yankees would get it right back in the bottom half. Francisco Cervelli would lead-off the inning with a double, and then advance to third on a ground ball. Darvish would then have an inexcusable balk to allow Cervelli to score. Brett Gardner would then break the 1-1 tie with a solo-homerun, his 10th of the season.
Next up for the Yankees will be the final game of the series with the Rangers at 1pm on Thursday, with Brandon McCarthy (1-0, 1.42) facing off against Colby Lewis (6-7, 6.37).
