New York Yankees vs Baltimore Orioles Post Game Recap
Final Score: Yankees 1 Orioles 3
On Sunday Night Baseball, the final game before the All-Star break, sadly however the weather shortened the game between the Yankees and Orioles, as they were only able to play five innings. The Yankees were losing when the rain started, so it being an official game, they lost. The loss moves the Yankees to (47-47) at the All-Star break, and they are now five games behind the Orioles in the AL East.
The Yankees couldn’t have gotten off to much of a better start on Sunday, as lead-off hitter Brett Gardner hit a lead-off homerun off of Kevin Gausman. The solo-homerun was Gardner’s ninth of the season, which is already a career high. Gausman after the lead-off homerun from Gardner pitched very well, not allowing another run, as he finished going five innings, while allowing only one run on four hits, and earned his fourth victory of the season.
Chase Whitley was pitching pretty well until the fourth inning, when the Orioles would strike for their three runs. Chris Davis gave the Orioles the lead with a two-run homerun over the Left Field wall, which was his 15th homerun of the season. The Orioles would keep up the momentum in the inning, with a Johnathon Schoop base-hit that scored J.J. Hardy. Whitley would go just 3.2 innings allowing three runs on five hits and two walks in his third loss of the season.
Umpires would decide to ask for the tarps in the bottom of the fifth inning, with the rain pouring on Camden Yards, and then a little while later the game would be called.
Next up for the Yankees will be a few days off except for Derek Jeter and Dellin Betances, who will be heading to Minnesota for the All-Star Game on Tuesday night.
